I appreciate all of your advice. I had a better week this week. I put a schedule together for my little one. Bless his heart. I am sure that it is hard for him to be in our class. He is starting to get it and so am I.
Curriculum- We are going over new reading curriculum for next year. Right now we use open court. We decided to continue to use open court. We looked at a few more, but really like what open court does through out the curriculum. I don't know if you have heard of Abeca, but a lot of private schools use their curriculum for all subjects. It goes at a fast pace, but the problem is that we want to keep the same curriculum through all the grades because as you know curriculum builds up through the grades.
What curriculum do you use for reading? Who reviews your curriculum- a select group? the district?
It is a short blog tonight. I will probably have more to write later!

We pick a new subject to review every year. Usually it is the jr. high teacher who specializes in the subject to make the final decision what curriculum we should get. We also try and keep the same curriculum throughout the grades, but we have branched away getting different math for our middle schoolers.
ReplyDeleteI really like Open Court. The school I did my student teaching at used it, and the kids just "got it."
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a copy of the alphabet letter rhymes and the phonetical stuff that they do for Kindergarten. I loved being able to help a child figure out what letter made the short /e/ sound by giving the hint, "Jen's pet hen likes to peck, peck, peck..." Because we did the rhymes every day, they knew it was E right away!
I can go through my books and send them to you. It will take awhile, but you can have them for next year.
